Org Scan vs Salesforce Health Check, Optimizer, ApexGuru and PMD
What each Salesforce analysis tool is built to find, what none of them can see, and when you need a pattern-level Org Scan.

The short answer
Salesforce’s built-in analysis tools answer the question “Is my org configured and coded correctly?” A Bitmoq Org Scan answers a different question: “Where is my org losing money, time and productivity, and which fix pays back first?” You need both, but they are not substitutes.
What each tool is built to find
| Tool | Looks at | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Salesforce Health Check | Security settings against a baseline | Password, session and network policy gaps |
| Salesforce Optimizer | Feature usage, limits and configuration | Unused components, approaching limits, hygiene |
| ApexGuru | Apex code and runtime behaviour | AI recommendations on code and performance hot spots |
| PMD / Salesforce Code Analyzer | Source code against rules | Code quality and security issues before deployment |
| Bitmoq Org Scan | How work flows: process history, usage, automation and integrations together | Patterns that drain revenue, efficiency and productivity, with cost and fix order |
Each of the first four looks at one layer of the org in isolation. That is what makes them reliable and fast — and why any admin can run them. It is also why they cannot see problems that only appear when you look at several layers at once.
What none of the built-in tools can see
The most expensive problems in a Salesforce org are rarely a single bad setting. They are patterns — behaviours that emerge from how people, automation and data interact over months. A few examples:
- The pipeline lives outside Salesforce. Won deals jump several stages in a single edit with no activity in between. Every individual setting is fine; the pattern means forecasts are built in spreadsheets.
- Swivel-chair loops. Records written by an integration are re-edited by people minutes later, on the same fields. The integration “works”; people are quietly re-keying its output.
- Approvals that delay but do not control. Discount approvals wait days, yet nearly all are approved unchanged. Nothing is misconfigured; the process simply adds cycle time without protecting margin.
- Cases that bounce. Cases change owner or queue several times before resolution, and many resolutions match an existing knowledge article.
- Paying for capability, working around it. Feature licences are assigned while the same work happens in email and attachments.
None of these would appear in a Health Check score, an Optimizer report, ApexGuru recommendations or a PMD scan, because none of them is a configuration or code defect. They are business problems that live in the data.
How an Org Scan finds patterns
An Org Scan reads several layers of the org together — process and field history, usage, automation and integration behaviour — and looks for signals that indicate lost revenue, duplicated effort or work happening outside the system. Each pattern is reported with:
- The signal — the evidence in your data.
- What it drains — revenue, time, cycle length or spend.
- The fix — and whether it is covered by a pre-packaged solution or needs custom work.
- The order — which fix pays back first.
Because it works from evidence, it replaces most of the stakeholder interviews a consulting engagement would normally start with.
When to use which
- Run Health Check and Optimizer regularly as hygiene. They are free and built in.
- Use ApexGuru and PMD as part of your development and release process.
- Use an Org Scan when leadership is asking why the Salesforce investment is not paying off, before a major new investment such as Agentforce, or when taking over an org from another partner.
Bitmoq offers the Org Scan free for qualifying Salesforce orgs. See what it covers and request one.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Salesforce Health Check score enough to judge org health?
It is a good measure of security settings against a baseline. It does not measure whether the org is helping you sell, serve or operate efficiently.
Does the Org Scan replace Salesforce Optimizer?
No. Optimizer is a useful hygiene report. The Org Scan answers a different question: which patterns are draining revenue and productivity, and what to fix first.
Does an Org Scan change anything in my org?
No. The access approach is agreed with your admin beforehand and nothing in the org is changed during the scan.
